How to Avoid Online Work Scams

There are as many scams as real job openings online - sometimes it seems like more. How can you tell the difference between online job scams and legitimate job openings. The following are tips on how to avoid being scammed when looking for an online home-based business. Scammers take advantage of desperation, so be vigilant when searching online for a home-business opportunity.

Avoid business opportunity sites that claim unrealistic income possibilities. 5,000 dollars in 5 days is most unlikely.

You're offered a job without an application, interview, or discussion with the employer.
 
Research any company you're interested in. At the very least, it should have a listed telephone number and be available during normal business hours.
 
The company asks you to pay for a credit report as part of the application process.

You're asked to cash a check and forward some of the money to a third party.
